Chase Street Elementary School students started their school week on Monday with a little ice cream and some recognition courtesy of Georgia Schools Superintendent John Barge.

Barge also brought along a representative of Blue Bell Creameries, district manager Tony Gregory, who brought ice cream; enough snack sized ice cream sandwiches for every child and teacher in the school with enough left over for Clarke County Superintendent Philip Lanoue and other adult visitors at a school assembly.

“It’s because you have worked so hard you are going to be recognized … for being one of the top groups of students, not just in our state, but our country,” Lanoue told the students as he introduced Barge.

The $4,165,900 project is being paid for through SPLOST III funds for RCA renovations, as well as a nearly $2.7 million grant from the state Career Academy Project, spearheaded by Cagle, that was awarded to RCPS and DeKalb Technical College, now Georgia Piedmont Technical College, as a partnership in December 2009.
